Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Tuesday warned that law enforcement agencies will deal with an iron hand if BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia tries to unleash chaos in the country again in the name of movement and hartal.
“Shun anarchic acts; wait for five years …identify our mistakes, but don’t create hindrance to the path of advancement,” he said.
The veteran Awami League leader said this while addressing the council of Mohammadpur thana AL at Shaheed Park in the city.
Underscoring the unity of party leaders and activists, Tofail, also an advisory council member of the AL, said that if the unity among party leaders and activities could be maintained, no one will be able to succeed by hatching conspiracies against Awami League.
Mentioning that Awami League is never against holding dialogue, Tofail said, “If there’s any dialogue, Khaleda Zia will raise the same issue of holding polls under a caretaker government.”
Tofail went on saying, “There’ll be no more election on Bangladesh soil under the caretaker government system. Elections will be held under the party in power. If you (Khaleda) want to participate in parliamentary polls, you’ll have to do that under the ruling party.”
Criticising BNP for its participation in the ongoing upazila polls, the minister said they termed the government illegal. “But, they’re taking part in the upaziala polls under the government. The party has no ideology and principle.
Awami League joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Awami Dhaka city unit acting president MA Aziz and general secretary Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya, among others, spoke at the programme held with Mohammad thana AL president Sadek Khan in the chair.
