BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the government not to put the blame on BNP for the killings of two foreigners in Bangladesh.

“It is very convenient for the government to blame the opposition for any kind of subversive activities like the murders,” Fakhrul told reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka after returning from Singapore last night.

“Though unfortunate, that is the culture of our country now,” he said.

He came up with the comments days after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government blamed BNP for the killings saying that the party are involved in the murder of Italian Cesare Tavella and Japanese Kunio Hoshi.

Though the perpetrators have not been arrested yet, reports are out that the BNP is fearing that the investigation of the murders will be directed towards it.

“The government’s allegation is totally baseless and imaginary,” Fakhrul said in response to queries regarding his opinion on the government’s stance in this regard.

Fakhrul, along with his wife, left for Singapore on October 17 for treatment in Singapore. He returned on a flight early today around 1:15am.
