She hopes opposition to return to Parliament
“As the Speaker, I’ve already invited opposition to join Parliament. Discussion between the government and the opposition on any issue can be held in Parliament,” she said.
Dr Shirin made the remark during a meeting with Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pankaj Saran at her Parliament office.
During the meeting, the Speaker recalled the contributions and the support of India and its people during the Liberation War in 1971.
She said the friendly bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh will continue in the days to come.
Greeting Dr Shirin for her election as the Speaker, the Indian envoy said it is a milestone for Bangladesh and appreciated the empowerment of women in the country.
In reply, the new Speaker said the women have been playing a significant role in political, social and economic areas in the country.
Dr Shirin expressed her hope that the relations between Bangladesh and Indian parliament would be strengthened further.
