Dhaka-Rampal long-march to begin on March 10

Leaders of the national committee to protect, oil, gas, mineral resources, power and ports on Saturday called on people of all walks of life to take part in the Dhaka Rampal long-march scheduled in March 10-15 to save the Sunderbans.
They made the call at an exchange of views organised by the national committee at Communist Party of Bangladesh central office with writers, artists, teaches and leaders of different professional bodies.
Anu Muhammad, member secretary of the committee, said the government was going to implement the coal-based Rampal Thermal Power Plant, which would be harmful for Sunderbans, the biggest mangrove forest in the world.
He called on the government to refrain from implementing the destructive power plant to save the forest.
Columnist Syed Abul Maksud said the government had no right to implement the project which would be harmful to the Sunderbans and the nature.
He called on the people to join the Dhaka-Rapal long march to raise voices against the project.
National committee leader Kallol Mostafa, Khan Asaduzzaman Masum, Jahangir Alam Fazlu, Dhaka University teacher Musayeda Sultana, layer Jotirmay Barua, cultural activist Sagar Lohani and others spoke at the programme.
