DCCI to promote 2,000 new entrepreneurs

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has taken an initiative to promote 2,000 new entrepreneurs who will be selected from across the country.

DCCI will organise a mega event — DCCI Entrepreneurship and Innovation Expo-2013 — in order to expose the selected 2,000 entrepreneurs to the local and global arena.

The two-day expo will begin at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city on November 1, according to the DCCI officials.

With a view to seeking support from Bangladesh Bank and other banks to arrange the event, the DCCI officials held a meeting with head of SME of all Banks and NBFIs at the SME & Special Programmes Department (SMESPD), Bangladesh Bank, on Monday.

Chaired by general manager of SMESPD Sukamal Sinha Choudhury, the meeting was attended, among others, by DCCI convener MS Siddiqui, DCCI secretary (acting) Bashir Haider, joint secretary Fazlul Karim, Bangladesh Bank DGM Abul Bashar and SME heads of 19 banks and senior officials of Bangladesh Bank.

Considering the noble and innovative idea, Sukamal Sinha Choudhury urged the bank officials to cooperate with the DCCI to make the project a success.

He requested all banks/NBFIs to use their 8,500 plus branches to promote the programme. “To uphold the new entrepreneurs, Bangladesh Bank will take policy initiatives and the bankers will also create new product for new entrepreneurs,” he said.
