Danger coming from all sides for govt: BNP

The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Wednesday said that danger is coming from all sides for the government as it held a ‘massively faulty and one-sided’ election on January 7.

‘There is nothing to be so happy about the election of thieves. Look around for danger. All the opposition leaders were put in jail and the polls were held,’ BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said at a virtual press conference.

He said that those of the Awami League who have lost the arranged elections are now saying that they have been defeated by the administration.

‘The deputy commissioners have already said that they worked as the government had desired. Awami League leaders and government officials are also giving such statements. The audio-video clips in this regard have gone viral,’ he said.

This government is floating in a ocean of corruption, he said, adding that their golden boat is full of corruption and corruption is the glory of this government.

He said that Sheikh Hasina has a purpose through such elections, she wants to establish the second BAKSAL, Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League.

‘She wants to remain in power for life by making such farce election. She is holding such elections to make BAKSAL successful,’ Rizvi said.

The BNP leader also said that in the last 24 hours, more than 40 BNP leaders and activists have been arrested across the country, more than 135 leaders and activists have been accused in two cases and more than 15 leaders and activists have been injured in AL attacks.

Since November 15, more than 13, 464 BNP leaders and activists were arrested and 501 new cases were filed against more than 52,477 people, he said.
