The cultural affairs secretary was returning to Dhaka from Rajshahi, says Banpara highway police camp OC
Cultural Affairs Secretary Ranjit Kumar Biswas has been critically injured in a road accident in Boraigram upazila of Natore on Friday afternoon.
Ranjit’s body guard Rafiqul Islam and car driver Din Mohammad were also injured in the accident.
They were first admitted into a local clinic, Later, they were shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital after their condition deteriorated.
“Ranjit Kumar was flown to Dhaka by air ambulance around 6pm after an operation at RMCH,” said Prof BK Dam, head of the RMCH orthopaedic surgery department.
He said Ranjit got severe injuries in his head and his left hip was displaced.
The ambulance is expected to reach Dhaka around 8.30pm. On arrival, he will be taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College University (BSMMU) Hospital, cultural ministry sources said.
Fuwad Ruhani, officer-in-charge of Banpara highway police camp, said the cultural affairs secretary was returning to Dhaka from Rajshahi.
“Ranjit’s Jeep collided head-on with a goods-laden truck at the bypass crossing of Banpara-Hattikumrul highway around 2pm,” said the OC.
