Covid-19: number of deaths reaches 3,000: 35 die, 2,960 infected, 1,731 recover in 24 hours

The number of total deaths with Covid-19 infection in Bangladesh has reached the grim milestone of 3,000 today with 35 new deaths in the last 24 hours.

The death rate now stands at 1.31 percent, Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said during a briefing today.

Two thousand nine hundred and sixty people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

With the fresh cases, the total number of positive cases so far in the country stands at 2,29,185 and the current infection rate is 23.28 percent.

The total infection rate stands at 20.15 percent, according to DGHS.

The position is one step ahead of Turkey and one step behind Italy, according to worldometer.info.

A total of 12,714 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima said.

Meanwhile, 1,731 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours.

The total number of recoveries stands at 1,27,414 and the recovery rate at 55.59 percent.

Seven hundred and thirteen people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima added during the briefing.

Among the deceased, 26 were male and nine were female while two were between 31-40 years old, three within 41-50, 10 between 51-60, 13 between 61-70, three within 71-80 and four were between 81-90 years old, Dr Nasima also said.

Of them, 12 were from Dhaka, five from Chattogram, four from Khulna, four from Sylhet, three from Rajshahi, two from Mymensingh, two from Rangpur and three were from Barishal division.
