Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir on Saturday said it is the jurisdiction of the court to grant bail to the detained BNP leaders being tried on charges of criminal acts.
“BNP is demanding unconditional release of its detained leaders. But it’s only the court which will take decision about their trial or bail,” he said addressing a meeting after inaugurating a new thana at Ruhia in Sadar upazila.
About Hefajat-e-Islam’s May 5 Dhaka siege programme, the Home Minister said if they want to hold any programme peacefully the government will not obstruct them.
He urged all to remain alert so that no one can create any anarchy in the country in the name of religion.
Water Resources Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen and Dabirul Islam, among others, addressed the programme.
