Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announces Bangladesh will take part in the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced that Bangladesh will take part in the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali and said the people of Bangladesh will always stand beside the efforts to ensure global peace.
Her administration is working to send more Army and police officers to the peacekeeping troops, she told a programme marking the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Addressing the Bangladeshi peacekeepers, Hasina said, “We expect that you will establish Bangladesh as a strong peace- building nation in world and uphold its flag.”
Bangladesh has the most number of peacekeepers in the UN missions.
Hasina said out of 92,541 peacekeepers of 116 countries, 8,936 peacekeepers including 224 female peacekeepers are from Bangladesh alone.
She added that 110 Bangladeshi peacekeepers lost their lives so far manitaining peace in countries.
