Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have decided to set up check posts at access points to stop the supply of Dhaka-bound formalin-contaminated fruits.
Commissioner Benazir Ahmed unveiled the plan in a press briefing at Sunday noon.
He said, “These checkposts will be set up at 8 entry points to Dhaka from June 11 onwards.
“Mixing formalin in fruits is equivalent to ‘social mass murder’. Checkposts will be set up to prevent this kind of offence.
”Police will start this drive so that the residents of Dhaka don’t have to buy formalin-mixed fruits in this season of summer fruits,” the Dhaka City police chief also said.
He further said, “We have no intention to harm anyone. So, three days before the drive starts, we have been pleading with everyone not to get involved with buying, selling or consuming formalin contaminated fruits.”
Areas where the police checkposts will be set up are Postgola bridge, Jatrabarhi Signboard area, Demra roundabout at the west side of Sultana Kamal bridge near Demra police station, Babubazaar bridge, Wiseghat of Sadarghat, Parbat Cinema Hall at Gabtoli bus stand, Abdullahpur bridge, Dhaur bridge of Tongi.
