The grand opening ceremony of the Bangladesh Premier League T20 tournament was held in Dhaka on Thursday.
President Zillur Rahman inaugurated the second edition of the competition at 6:30pm at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in the city’s Mirpur.
Sri Lankan actress Jacqueline Fernandez, India’s Sunidhi Chouhan, Pakistan’s Atif Aslam, Mila Islam and Habib Wahid from Bangladesh and a host of other international performers are performing during the opening night.
The tournament will start Friday with matches between Dhaka Gladiators Khulna Royal Bengals.
Tickets for the tournament are available in various branches of the United Commercial Bank. The branches in Dhaka include Mirpur, Dhanmondi, New Eskaton, Uttara (Main), Dlkusha, Elephant Road, Nayabazar and Mirpur Road.
Tickets are also be sold at the O.R. Nizam Road, Dampara and Kadamtali branches in Chittagong and the Khan Jahan Ali branch in Khulna, while also being available at the main Airtel outlets of the three cities. Initially Prime Bank was supposed to be responsible for ticket sales, but that was changed at the last minute, leading to a bit of uncertainty.
A similar scenario was witnessed by the team managements of some of the franchises as they were busy trying to acquire replacements for their Pakistani players as per clause 4.4 of the BPL bylaws which states that a franchisee is allowed to replace a player upon non-receipt of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from his respective board.
