He is undergoing treatment at Dhaka’s United Hospital under police custody, Sunamganj’s Superintendent of Police Harun Ur Rashid said.

Rahman’s nephew Abul Hossain told bdnews24.com that the BNP leader was rescued from Gazipur’s Tongi on Monday afternoon.

BNP’s Sunamganj chapter convener Rahman and his driver Rezaul Haque Sohel had been missing since May 5.

Rahman, who lives in London with his family, had returned home alone a year ago and was staying in the district’s Hajiparha.

Since then, the local BNP unit has staged protests including general strikes demanding information on his whereabouts.

However, Abul Hossain said Sohel was yet to be traced.
