The finance minister says relation with India is not likely to be influenced with a new government
Relation between India and Bangladesh is not influenced by who is in Delhi’s governing seat, Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said.
“BNP’s dream of a change with BJP in power is building skyscrapers in the air,” he told journalists during a view exchange programme in Sylhet on Tuesday.
Bharatya Janata Party’s (BJP) landslide win in the Indian elections led several quarters to remark that it would be a gain in Delhi-relation for the BNP.
“The Congress was in power during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971,” Muhith said. “But, none of the parties in India opposed the liberation of Bangladesh.”
“Narendra Modi is a successful chief minister though he has some issues with the Hindu fundamentalism tag. I do not think there is anything to worry about yet.”
Muhith criticised BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. “Because of her, the last election was incompetent.”
In response to a relevant query, the minister said there was no chance of a fresh election “unless the incumbent government proves to be a massive failure.”
Awami League Organising Secretary Misbah Uddin Siraj, Sylhet chief Abduz Zahir Chowdhury and others were present with the minister on the spot.
