The BNP has announced it will hold protest rallies at all thanas in Dhaka on Saturday, as the party did not get the permission to hold a rally at Jatrabarhi’s Matuail.
Standing Committee member Tariqul Islam made the announcement in a press briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters on Friday.
The BNP’s acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir earlier in the day had warned the government, saying they would intensify protest if they were denied permission for the rally.
The party had sought permission from Dhaka Metropolitan Police to hold the rally on Saturday at Concord Housing ground at Matuail.
Chairperson Khaleda Zia was supposed to address the rally.
“The government is scared to permit the opposition to hold rallies. We will protest by demonstrating at all thana areas in Dhaka on Saturday,” Tariqul Islam told reporters.
He said they had to change the venue twice after police denied permission.
But the DMP also denied their third attempt to hold the rally even after they spoke to the junior home minister and many police officials including the inspector general of police, Islam added.
“This deserves condemnation,” he said.
