Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday urged prime minister Sheikh Hasina to go to different countries including India and China for resolving the Rohingya crisis as around three lakh members of the persecuted ethnic group entered Bangladesh in the recent days.
He alleged that Myanmar undermine the independence of Bangladesh by driving away and pushing in its citizen into Bangladesh.
Fakhrul made the remarks addressing a discussion organised by Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in the capital to mark its 39th founding anniversary.
Fakhrul said the government would urgently have to start all diplomatic processes to stop persecution of Rohingya in Myanmar and force the Burmese government to take back the Rohingyas.
‘If necessary, the prime minister would have to go to different countries,’ the BNP secretary general suggested.
‘It is now being said about India and China that they are backing the Myanmar government,’ Fakhrul said, adding the two countries needed to be convinced about the severe consequence Bangladesh was facing.
He said Awami League government was not taking any effective step to reslove the influx of Rohingyas, rather they (government) were saying that arms and extremists were entering along with the Rohingyas.
Mahila Dal president Afroza Abbas presided over the discussion.
