Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Monday demanded an explanation from foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali about the diplomatic progress on brining back abducted BGB Nayek Abdur Razzak from Myanmar and his ministry’s role in this regard, reports United News of Bangladesh.
BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office also asked the foreign minister to quit if diplomatic talks and efforts fail to bring the BGB member back.
‘Five days have elapsed, but the government couldn’t bring BGB Nayek Abdur Razzak back. We want to tell the Foreign Minister to come up with an explanation before people about the diplomatic progress on it and what discussion they have had with Myanmar authorities and why a flag meeting between the border forces of the two countries could not yet be held,’ he said.
The BNP leader urged BGB director general Major General Aziz Ahmed to inform people about Razzak’s abduction incident and rescue efforts.
Myanmar’s Border Guard Police opened fire on a Border Guard Bangladesh patrol boat in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar district in the early hours of Wednesday.
A BGB sepoy, Biplob Kumar, suffered bullet wounds during the firing and another BGB member, Abdur Razzak, was abducted by the BGP. Abdur Razzak is yet to be released by the BGP.
Ripon came down hard on the Foreign Minister for his silence after seeing the photograph of handcuffed Razzak clad in lungi, saying though he had given the nation false information about Indian Prime Minister’s meeting with BNP chief Khaleda Zia, he is now silent over a crucial issue.
‘We’re not hearing any word from the Foreign Minister about Razzak issue. He (FM) should inform people the fact. He should let people know whether he had any talk with his Myanmar counterpart. He should also quit if his diplomatic efforts fail.’
