BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday called a meeting of her party’s standing committee, the highest policymaking body of the party, to decide next course of action after the two-day countrywide shutdown.
Party’s Assistant Office Secretary Abdul Latif Jony told bdnews24.com the meeting would take place at Khaleda’s Gulshan office at 9pm on Thursday.
He said the meeting was expected to discuss the overall situation of the country.
The BNP-led 18-Party alliance is enforcing a 6am to 6pm shutdown from Tuesday protesting against the police action against the activists of Hifazat-e Islam at Dhaka’s Motijheel on the early hours of Monday.
The activists were occupying Shapla Chattar of the commercial district defying police order way beyond the permitted time for their rally.
Meanwhile, the second war crimes tribunal is set to deliver its verdict on Jammaat-e-Islami leader Mohammad Kamaruzzaman over his alleged involvement in the crime against humanity during 1971 Liberation War.
Jamaat is a key partner of BNP.
Hifazat is believed to be backed by Jamaat while BNP also lent support to it.
The 13-point of charters of demands of the Chittagong-based radical organisation include a ban on free mixing of sexes in public places and a curb on women’s rights.
