BNP opposes move to hike power rates

Criticizing the government for its move to hike electricity prices BNP leader Nazrul Islam Khan on Wednesday said this administration must go for the people to get power at cheaper rates.

“Everything will get pricier as long as they will be in office, while people’s lives will keep on losing the value. So, change the government if you want the power tariff to fall,” he said.

The BNP standing committee member was addressing a meeting of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal central committee at Mahbub Ali Auditorium in the city’s Shahjahanpur.

He feared that the prices of each essential will go up if the power tariff is hiked. “This will only compound public sufferings. We’re against power tariff hike,” he said.

“Stop looting public money in the name of quick rental power plants and enhance your competence to check power pilferage,” he said pointing to the government.  “Then you won’t have to raise the prices of power,” Nazrul said.

Turing to the upazila polls, the BNP leader said “The ruling party leaders claim they’re popular. But the upazila polls exposed that their balloon of popularity has got punctured. Now they (AL) even get defeated to Jamaat candidates.”

He also urged the Sramik Dal leaders to get better organised to wage a strong movement to dislodge what he said the anti-people regime.
