The BNP’s Naya Paltan headquarters opened on Thursday, more than a month and half after its Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was arrested from there.
Four party leaders headed by the Assistant Office Secretary Abdul Latif Jony went to the office around 11.30am along with some activists.
After they entered, a few more leaders of the party came into office.
The police posted around the office on Thursday did not stop anyone.
The Naya Paltan office remained effectively closed for the last 47 days due to restrictions of some kind or the other imposed by the police.
“We have entered the office after 47 days. Police and members of other law enforcing agencies had blocked our office. We have not faced any obstruction today (Thursday),” Jony told mediapersons.
The BNP leader called upon the government to not obstruct supporters from coming in to the party headquarters.
“It’s not good for democracy to shut out a political party’s office. We hope the government would not prevent supporters from entering our offices. The government should let us pursue our political activity democratically,” said the BNP Assistant Office Secretary.
He demanded immediate release of senior BNP leaders including its Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Police arrested Rizvi along with party executive committee member Belal Ahmed early on Nov 28 from the Naya Paltan office.
Additional police units were deployed in the area following the arrests and BNP supporters were obstructed from entering the office.
Party activists, leaders and office staff celebrated after entering the Naya Paltan headquarters after 47 days.
