News - BNP now realises necessity of polls: Tofail
Senior Awami League leader Tofail Ahmed on Wednesday said the BNP is taking part in the polls in Khulna, Rajshahi and Barisal city corporations as the party has realised the necessity of the elections.

The ruling party leader was addressing a programme at Dhania Baliakandi in Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning.

The programmme was arranged marking the inauguration of the third-phase work on the town protection project involving Tk 103 crore taken up by the Water Development Board to protect the town from erosion by the Meghna River.

Superintending engineer of the Water Development Board Nasir Uddin, Sadar thana AL president Mosharraf Hossain, police super Moniruzzaman, among others, spoke at the programme.

Referring to the general election, Tofail said: “Elections in all the parliamentary democratic countries in the world are held under the party government system. It is also possible to hold a fair and impartial election in Bangladesh under the party government if important ministries remained under the Election Commission.”

The veteran ruling party leader hoped that the BNP will take part in the next general election.
