A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted one month bail to blogger Asif Mohiuddin in a case for making “derogatory comments about Islam and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)” in social media.
Asif, who has been undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital since his arrest, got the bail on health ground.
Asif, 28, an ex-student of a private university, was arrested on April 3 for his online posts deemed insulting to Islam.
Judge Mohammad Zahirul Haque, of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court, granted the bail to Asif.
Earlier on July 29 Asif was sent to jail cancelling his bail saying that he violated the terms and conditions of the bail order.
Earlier, he was granted bail for June 27 to July 25 on health grounds.
On April 17, the Detective Branch of police submitted probe reports against Asif, accusing him of hurting religious sentiments via social media.
Hearing on charge framing against the blogger will be held on August 25.
