Biswajit killing case: 2 more witnesses testify

Two more witnesses gave deposition before a Dhaka court on Sunday in the sensational tailoring shop employee Biswajit murder case.

Acting Judge Dewan M Safiullah of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 recorded the deposition of Sumon Khan, an employee of Atithi Tailoring Shop in Laxmibazar in the city, and Mohammad Salek, an employee of a petrol pump near Bahadur Shah Park.

During their deposition, the both witnesses did not mention the names of any accused.

They told the court that they did not witness the incident. Rather, they watched it in TV channels and heard from others.

After conclusion of their deposition, the court fixed July 25 for next hearing of the case.

On July 14, sub-inspector of Sutrapur Police Station Mohammad Jalal Uddin, also the complainant of the case, made his deposition before the same court.

Eight accused, now in custody, were produced before the court on Sunday. They are: Rafiqul Islam Shakil, Mahfuzur Rahman Nahid, Emdadul Haque Emdad, GM Rasheduzzaman Shaon, AHM Kibria, Saiful Islam, Quaiyum Mia and Golam Mostofa.

However, no member of the Biswajit’s family was present at the court during the hearing.

On June 18, the Home Ministry issued a gazette notification shifting the case to the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4.

Dhaka’s Metropolitan Magistrate Zahurul Haque framed the charges against 21 activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League of Jagannath University unit on June 2.

On March 5, Tajul Islam, DB inspector and investigation officer of the case submitted a charge sheet against the 21 accused.

Biswajit Das, a tailoring shop employee, was chopped to death by the BCL workers near the Bahadur Shah Park in the old city during the opposition’s countrywide road blockade programme on December 9 last year.
