Minutes after the detention of senior party leader Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, the BNP Chairperson in a statement demanded his immediate release.

She alleged the government was implicating and detaining BNP leaders in ‘false cases’.

Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) officials picked up Hossain from his Gulshan residence on Wednesday night.

The former health minister stands accused in a money laundering case filed by the ACC.

Khaleda in her statement alleged Hossain had been detained as a part of a “continuous conspiracy by the government to destroy the opposition”.

She warned that the government’s crackdown on the BNP and its allies would lead to something real bad.

“The [ruling] Awami League thinks the [opposition’s] agitation will hit a dead end if the leaders of the [BNP-led] opposition are put behind bars.

“This misconception and imaginary dream would lead to their (the Awami League’s) fall,” the former prime minister said in the statement.

  1. One so called “Columnist”, S R Choudhury wrote in Bhorer Kagoj on 13.03.14 “ইংরেজি বর্ষ পঞ্জি’’। What is ” ENGREJI BORSHO”-PONJI? Does the writer mean Latin ANNO DOMINI ( meaning in Anglo-Saxon= IN THE YEAR OF THE LORD?) In simple Bengali it should be খৃষ্টাব্দ. Writer’s ignorance about the A.D. is absolutely staggering to say the least.
How on earth these kind of ignorant Awami sycophants going to teach our children the “ TRUE HISTORY of MUKTIJUDDO?
