Arrest warrants issued against 14 BNP men

A Dhaka court yesterday issued warrants for the arrest of 14 leaders and activists of BNP  including its Joint Secretary General Barkatullah Bulu in a case filed under explosives substance act.

Metropolitan Session Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Molla issued the warrants after taking cognizance of the charge sheet submitted against the leaders and activists.

The court issued the warrants as they did not appear before it during yesterday’s hearing in the case. The court also directed the officer-in-charge of Wari police station to submit a report by January 25 next year  on the execution of the warrants.

The 14 BNP men are: BNP Joint Secretary General Barkatullah Bulu, BNP chairperson’s Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel, the chairperson’s Special Assistant Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal president Azizul Bari Helal, Swechchhasebak Dal president Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, its Secretary Meer Sharafat Ali Safu, former BNP lawmakers Salauddin Ahmed, Shirin Sultana, Khairul Kabir Khokon and activists Md Mohsin, Mehedi Hasan Liton, SM Ibrahim Alam, Toymur Ali Khan and Yousuf Azad.

According to the charge sheet, on January 30, a group of BNP-led alliance men torched a Kamol mini bus by hurling petrol bombs on Dhaka-Adamjee highway near Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in the city during the BNP’s countrywide nonstop blockade programme.

On the same day, Md Omar Ali, a sub-inspector of Wari police station, filed the case with the station against the accused.
