AL happy with voter turnout

The ruling Awami League on Sunday expressed its satisfaction over voter turnout during the 10th parliamentary polls, saying the ‘valiant people rejected” the opposition call to boycott the election.

This was stated by Co-chairman of Awami League Election Steering Committee HT Imam and AL advisory council member Tofail Ahmed during separate conferences at the party chief’s Dhanmondi political office.

“We should be proud of our valiant people who came to the polling centers,” HT Imam said.

About the poor turnout of voters in the morning, he said the rush of people to the polling centers began after 10 am as the weather was not favorable.

“Cold wave and fog have disrupted the normal life across the country and the people of the capital city also experienced heavy fog in the early morning,” he added.

In this connection, HT Imam mentioned that there was propaganda from the opposition parties urging the voters not to go to the polling centers. “But, people ignored the opposition propaganda and took part in the voting,” he said.

HT Imam alleged that the opposition unleashed a reign of terror against the people in the name of blockades. “Such blockade is nothing but a declaration of war against the people,” he said.

Earlier, at 4 pm, expressing his satisfaction over the voter turn out, Public Works Minister Tofail Ahmed said the party which wins the election will form the government and run the country.

Describing the election as the victory of democracy, he said: “The 10th parliamentary elections have been held foiling of all conspiracies.”
