Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said Awami League never pursues politics of blood or killing.
“We never give death threat to anybody. We have no track record of killing. People will never accept those who pursue the politics of blood or killing as they don't believe in democracy,” he said.
Quader, also a Presidium member of the ruling AL, was speaking as the chief guest at a students' rally organised in front of the 'Aparajeo Bangla' sculpture of Dhaka University.
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) organised the rally marking its 65th founding anniversary.
Earlier, the function was formally inaugurated hoisting national and organisational flags at the venue while balloons and white pigeons were released marking the founding anniversary of BCL.
BCL president HM Badiuzzaman Sohag chaired the rally, also attended, among others, by Awami League joint general secretary and state minister for LGRD Jahangir Kabir Nanak.
Information and research affairs secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain, former BCL presidents Abdul Mannan, MP, Mainuddin Hasan Chowdhury, AKM Enamul Huq Shamim, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury MP, Liaquat Shikdar, Bahadur Bepari, former general secretary Nazrul Islam Babu, MP, former BCL vice-president Asit Baran Biswas and prime minister's special assistant Abdus Sobhan Golap, among others, spoke at the function.
Later, a colourful procession was brought out from the venue. The marchers paraded through Shahbagh, Matsya Bhaban, Kakrail, Bijoynagar, Paltan intersection and Nur Hossain Square and stopped in front of party central office at Bangabandhu Avenue.
Earlier at one minute past zero hour, the founding anniversary programme of BCL was inaugurated by cutting a big cake at Curzon Hall of Dhaka University.
Marking the day, leaders and workers of BCL placed a wreath at the portrait of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the premises of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi at 8:00 in the morning.
The Dhaka University campus was tastefully decorated while leaders and workers of BCL were in a festive mood as they sang and danced to the tune of music in observance of the day.
On January 4 in 1948, Bangabandhu floated BCL as a students' body at Fazlul Huq Hall of Dhaka University. Since its founding, BCL had commendable contributions in all the national movements including the Liberation War.
