The ruling party Awami League has cancelled all the prescheduled programmes in observance of Independence Day on March 26 considering the COVID-19 situation in Bangladesh.

Obaidul Quader, AL general secretary, said this on Monday while addressing a press conference at the Secretariat in Dhaka.

Obaidul, also road transport and bridges minister, asked the party leaders and activists in grassroots to assist the local administration to handle the COVID-19 situation that ‘turned into a war situation.’

He also urged people to not to buy additional commodities as there was no crisis of food.

He requested all the political parties, including opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party, not to do politics with the issue as it was an issue of fighting together.
