Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan has said the ruling Awami League (AL) “speaks in favour of democracy but always acts against it”.
Addressing a book launching ceremony at the National Press Club on Wednesday, he pointed out that the AL tried to establish one-party BKSAL system in the country in 1975.
“And the target of today’s government, too, is to take the country towards one-party rule,” the BNP leader added.
He said, “The country is in a deep crisis. The country must be taken out of it because it was liberated not to take any certain person or quarters to power. The people fought the liberation war for democracy.”
A pro-BNP platform for political research called Centre for National Studies (CNS) launched the book titled “Political Crisis in Bangladesh.”
Journalist Shafik Rehman, the BNP chairperson’s advisers Shaukat Mahmood and MA Qaiyum spoke, among others, on the occasion.
