He said Zia with his revolutionary thoughts took the country much forward

President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury yesterday said the country’s political parties, including Awami League, got a rebirth as BNP founder Ziaur Rahman had introduced multiparty democracy.

“Ziaur Rahman had been brought to power through the November 7 revolution to take the responsibility of the country’s people. He subsequently restored people’s right of expression and introduced the politics of free thinking. Political parties, even Awami League, got a new life because of him,” he said.

B Chowdhury, also a former president, made the remarks while addressing a discussion titled ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’ organised by Zia Parishad at the Jatiya Press Club.

He said Zia with his revolutionary thoughts took the country much forward. “Those who couldn’t tolerate the advancement of Bangladesh killed Ziaur Rahman.”

The BDB president said politicians these days do politics only to go to power instead of taking the responsibility of people. “That’s why, they forget about people after assuming office.”

He claimed that the government fears BNP as the party enjoys huge popularity.

Turning to PM’s adviser HT Imam’s recent comments about the January-5 election, B Chowdhury said, “HT Imam is certainly also the Imam of Awami League. He has now disclosed the facts.”

“By holding the January-5 election, the government has stabbed in the chest of democracy,” the BDB chief observed.

He slammed Finance Minister AMA Muhith for his comment that receiving bribe is not illegal, saying it is the worst comment of the year. “‘How come a minister like him (Muhith) made such a comment’?

Referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy’s comment that BNP is a party of Razakars and Ziaur Rahman was not a freedom fighter, the founding BNP secretary general urged all not to react to his remarks as he is a in the learning process of politics.

B Chowdhury said, “He (Joy) was brought up and educated in America. He doesn’t understand the language of people. He needs time to get acquainted with the culture and reality of Bangladesh politics.”

Ex-VC of Dhaka University Prof Imajuddin Ahmed and BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, among others, addressed the programme held with Zia Parishad chairman Kabir Murad in the chair.
