BNP on Thursday alleged that the government has undermined the country’s independence by adopting a knee-jerk foreign policy and signing secret deals.
“The current regime that usurped power through a voter-less election has weakened democracy, voting right, parliament and the country’s independence and sovereignty,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
He further said, “This regime has also dented the country’s independence by striking many secret deals and adopting a knee-jerk foreign policy only to perpetuate its power.”
Rizvi came up with the allegations while addressing a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
He said the government is running the country as a puppet being alienated from people due to its aggressive attitude, injustice, misrule, looting and repressive acts.
The BNP leader said the government is now relying on police and armed criminals to hang onto power by repressing people.
He warned that the government will not be able to cling to power by force and resorting to repressive acts.
Rizvi called upon the government to arrange a fresh national election under a non-party administration after quitting power in the interest of the country and its people. Otherwise, he warned, they will realise their demand and restore people’s rights through a strong movement.
