Three senior Jatiya Party lawmakers lost temper at Jatiya Sangsad lobby and engaged in war of words on Thursday.
As the House went into Magrib recess, witnesses said, state minister for LGRD Moshiur Rahman Ranga and opposition chief whip Tajul Islam Chowdhury started shouting at JP secretary general Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu.
The trouble began as Ranga and Tajul blamed Bablu for influencing JP chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad to remove them (Ranga and Tajul) from the party presidium, the highest policy making body of JP.
“Now you [Bablu] have emerged as a powerful and big leader of the party. Why have you dissolved the party’s Rangpur district committee? It is you who have convinced the party chief to remove us from the party presidium,” an eyewitness quoted Ranga as telling Bablu.
In response, Bablu said, “I don’t know anything about it. It’s the party chief who has taken all the decisions.”
Joining the heated exchange, Tajul blasted the JP secretary general saying that he is now running the party.
Pointing to Thursday’s press conference organized by Bablu at the JP chief’s Banani office, Tajul questioned Bablu why did he hold the press conference without informing them.
“Why did you [Bablu] talk rubbish against me at the press briefing? You blamed me that I was involved in crime against humanity. How dare you say that?” Tajul asked Bablu.
In reply, Bablu said he did not say anything like that at the press briefing.
Tajul and Bablu at that time engaged in a serious debate. Eyewitness said Tajul and Ranga were on the verge of scuffle with Bablu.
JP leader and Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud who was also present there sided with Bablu.
Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad on Wednesday relived party chief whip Tajul Islam and state minister for rural development and cooperatives Moshiur Rahman Ranga of the party presidium amid growing infighting among the party leaders.
Infighting in the party of HM Ershad, a former military ruler, has taken a serious turn in recent times over various issues, including quitting the government and selection of the deputy leader of the opposition in parliament from the party.
