Malaysia wants to recruit over 3 lakh workers from Bangladesh soon, visiting Malaysian Home Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said here on Monday.
He conveyed the Malaysian government’s willingness during a meeting with Planning Minister AHM Mostafa Kamal at his office, according to a PID handout. Malaysian High Commissioner in Dhaka Norlin Othman was also present.
Earlier, the Planning Minister requested the Malaysian government to recruit Bangladeshi workers for Malaysia’s agriculture sector, saying Malaysia has huge ‘fallow land’.
Dr Hamidi, who is leading a 12-member delegation, also held meeting with Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khondkar Mosharraf Hossain and discussed issues related to mutual interest.
Deputy Secretary General, Operation Division of the Malaysian Home Ministry Wahad Bin Mohd Yasin, DG of Immigration Department Aloyah Mamat and Under-Secretary, International Division Amin Bin Sulaiman, were, among others, present.
Dr Hamidi, who is now on a two-day visit, will leave Dhaka on Tuesday.
