Japan Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Seiji Kihara has stressed the need for further cultivation of relationships between Bangladesh and Japan in economic field.
Seiji Kihara mentioned that Bangladesh and Japan have been traditionally building an excellent relationship which got a momentum by the recent visit of Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida to Bangladesh.
He came up with the remarks while addressing a function arranged by Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo marking the 44th Independence and National Day, according to a message received here on Wednesday.
Secretary General of Bangladesh-Japan Parliamentary League Ichiro Tsukada read out the message of Deputy Prime Minister of Japan and President of Japan-Bangladesh Parliamentary League Taro Aso.
In the message, Aso mentioned that Japan and Bangladesh had developed strong friendship as ‘true friends’ or ‘brothers and sisters’.
The two countries are strongly linked together for mutual interest, trust, and cooperation, the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
The programmes of the day began with hoisting of the national flag by Ambassador Masud Bin Momen on the Embassy premises.
The embassy officials observed a one-minute silence which was followed by reading out messages sent from Bangladesh on the occasion of the day.
At noon, the Embassy organised a reception at city’s prestigious Okura Hotel.
The reception was attended by around 400 guests that included diplomats, politicians, academics, intelligentsia, businesspersons, and members of Bangladesh community living in Japan.
Speaking at the function, Ambassador Momen said, “Today, Japan is the most important development partner of Bangladesh.”
A documentary highlighting the significance of our Independence and National Day was shown during the event.
Meanwhile, the guests -– over a hundred Bangladesh expatriates and a few Japanese friends — sang the Bangladesh national anthem holding together the national flag in their hands.
