Ershad asks his party ministers to quit cabinet

 

A day after announcing to boycott the 10th parliamentary polls, Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad on Wednesday asked his party leaders, now in the election-time cabinet, and adviser to the Prime Minister, to quit.

 

“Withdraw nomination papers who have submitted it. I ask you (party ministers and adviser) who are in the all-party cabinet to resign,” the former military dictator said it at a press briefing at his Baridhara residence in the afternoon.

 

Ershad also said, “There’s no environment to hold polls. This is my last word I wouldn’t take part in the polls if all political parties don’t join it.”

 

Earlier, on Tuesday, Ershad formally announced that his party would boycott the 10th parliamentary polls.

 

There are four ministers, two state ministers in the election-time cabinet from the Jatiya Party.

 

They are Health and Family Welfare Minister Raushan Ershad, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Commerce Minister GM Quader, State Minister for Women & Children Affairs Salma Islam and State Minister for Youth and Sports Mujibul Haque (Chunnu).

 

Apart from GM Quader, other five ministers took oath on November 18.

 

Meanwhile, Jatiya Party presidium member Ziauddin Bandu is discharging duties as an adviser to the Prime Minister enjoying the rank of a minister.

 

On November 18, Ershad deserted the ruling Awami League-led grand alliance and urged BNP to join the general election to save the country and maintain the democratic process.
