It urges law enforcers not to allow ‘illegal’ ministers to use nat’l flag
Opposition BNP on Tuesday termed the government illegal following the resignation of the cabinet members saying that it has lost its right to carry out executive functions.
“As per Article 58/1 (A) of the constitution, the posts of the ministers fell vacant as they’ve submitted their resignations to the Prime Minister and announced it… This illegal regime has lost right to exercise its executive functions,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Addressing a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on the third-day of the 18-party’s 84-hour hartal, the BNP spokesman also said if the law enforcers follow the orders of the “illegal ministers” that will be their serious offence.
He said the ministers are holding offices illegally after their resignation and it is a complete violation of the constitution.
Mentioning that it will be utter disrespect for the national flag if the ministers who have quit fly it in their vehicles, Rizvi asked the law enforcers to take action if the ministers of the 14-party alliance government use the flag.
“If you (law enforcers) don’t take legal action against the ministers for illegally using the national flag, it’ll be proved that you’re working as a private force of the government with an agenda of annihilating democracy and putting the country’s independence and sovereignty at stake,” he warned.
The BNP leader also urged the secretaries not to send any file to the ‘illegal ministers’ for having their signs. “If the secretaries send any file to the ministers, it’ll be illegal and the secretaries must be accountable to people if they do this.”
Asked whether they will move the court with the issue, Rizvi said party policymakers will take a decision in this regard in consultation with lawyers.
Replying to another question as to why the opposition MPs are not resigning from parliament as the government turned illegal, he said they are calling the government illegal. “The government and parliament are not the same.”
As his attention was drawn to the remarks of an election commissioner that the commission communicating with BNP about joining the next polls, the BNP spokesman said he is not aware of it. “What I know that the BNP-led 18-party alliance and some other parties won’t join any election unless it is overseen by a non-party administration.”
Criticising the government for what he said its repressive acts, Rizvi said the government is trying to suppress the opposition leaders and activists through physical and mental torture.
He accused the government of misleading people about the dialogue when the whole nation is waiting to have a solution to the ongoing political crisis. “In fact, the Prime Minister is making a mockery of dialogue.”
About the hartal, the BNP leader said people across the country spontaneously observed the third day hartal like two other days defying and foiling obstructions and repression by law enforcers and ruling party ‘cadres’.
Rizvi claimed that two opposition men were killed in firings and attacks by the law enforcers and ruling party cadres during the hartal hours from Monday evening to Tuesday 4pm.
Besides, he said police arrested over 450 opposition activists across the country during the hartal hours, while more than 1,100 were injured in attacks by law enforcers and ‘ruling party cadres’.
Asked why the central and senior leaders are not seen on the streets during the hartal, Rizvi said central leaders like Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar and Rafiqul Islam would not have been arrested had the centers leaders not been out there on the streets.
