Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF), the newly formed political organisation which applied for registration with the Election Commission (EC), wants ‘paddy plant’ as it electoral symbol, chief coordinator of the party Abul Kalam Azad said on Thursday.
“As controversy has already been created over our polls symbol with ‘wheat sheaf’, so, we now want ‘paddy plant’ to intensify the controversy’, he told reporters at the EC secretariat replying to a query.
Abul Kalam Azad also said they will take part in the 10th parliamentary election unfailingly.
“Our registration is now under process, which will be completed before Eid-ul-Azha… we’ll get the registration immediately after Eid vacation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Sangskritik Mukto Jote got registration with the Election Commission and the party leader received the registration certificate from the EC today (Thursday).
With Mukto Jote, the number of registered political parties now stands at 40.
Expelled BNP vice chairman Nazmul Huda launched the BNF early this year. Former BNP cabinet minister Prof Jahanara Begum, among others, joined the party.
In March, the BNF relieved Huda of the party’s convener post for ‘anti-party activities’ and made Jahanara its acting convener.
