‘Repair Keraniganj-Jinjira road in 10 days’
Keraniganj, Aug 13 (UNB) – Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday criticised the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for enforcing a 48-hour hartal just after the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, saying it is nothing but a 48-hour non-stop public sufferings.
“A 48-hour hartal means a 48-hour non-stop public sufferings,“ he said while visiting the damaged part of Keraniganj-Jinjira road.
Quader called upon Jamaat to withdraw its shutdown programme.
The minister came to the upazila at noon and visited the dilapidated road and asked the authorities concerned to complete the repair work within 10 days.
The minister expressed his displeasure as the authorities failed to carry out his earlier order to repair the dilapidated roads of Keraniganj.
Earlier on July 18, he had made a surprise visit to the upazila and asked the Roads and Highways Department to repair the rundown roads immediately.
Quader observed that tailbacks are created on both sides of the Babubazar Bridge as toll is collected by halting vehicles.
To resolve this problem, he said the bridge will not be leased out in the future.
Local MP Nasrul Hamid Bipu, upazlia chairman Shaheen Ahmed and Roads and Highways Department chief engineer M Habibul Haq were present.
