BNP leader Moudud Ahmed on Friday feared that the proposed 2013-14 budget, announced in the year of elections, will raise inflation in the country.
This Tk 2.2 trillion budget will be of no use for the people, he said. “This big budget is a big beautiful balloon. This will push up inflation and will jeopardise investment prospects. Prices of everything will rise.”
“There is no direction as to how money for this big budget will be raised. It is not possible by imposing direct and indirect taxes.”
The BNP Standing Committee member feared that sanctioning this huge amount would lead to ‘mass waste and corruption’.
Moudud Ahmed was speaking at a discussions arranged at National Press Club.
He blamed the government for the current political deadlock. “Caretaker government system was Sheikh Hasina’s brain child in 1994-95. There had been casualties and killings over this… resources were wasted.”
“One day Awami League will accept this demand for its own need.” Moudud claimed , asserting that there was no alternative to a neutral government for democracy.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith placed the Tk 2.2 trillion 2013-14 budget at Parliament with a targeted revenue of Tk 1.76 trillion.
