“We held a fruitful discussion with CRP’s Sister Valerie Tailor on Monday to replace the limbs of injured workers. CRP, BGMEA and some NGOs will help the injured workers to replace their limbs,” BGMEA president Atiqul Islam said at a press conference at the BGMEA Bhaban here Tuesday evening.
About the number of injured workers, he said nearly 515 garment workers are currently under treatment at different hospitals and clinic in the capital and in Savar.
Atiqul Islam said some critically injured garment workers have already been shifted to the city’s Apollo Hospitals and Square Hospital for better treatment.
He said that BUET, RAJUK and BGMEA will jointly conduct a survey soon to evaluate the structural designs and load bearing capacity of the garment factory buildings in a bid to avert further building collapse.
“Today (Tuesday), the BGMEA held a meeting with the chairman of BUET’s Civil Engineering Department to conduct the survey,” he added.
The BGMEA president urged the garment workers to join their respective work to protect the country’s RMG sector.
Later, some garment factories handed over cheques to the BGMEA president to assist the victims of Savar building collapse.
