Barbados Tridents lost the first qualifier of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CBP) losing to Guyana Amazon Warriors by 30 runs at Providence Stadium in Guyana on Monday.With the feat, Guyana Amazon Warriors stormed the final to be played on 12 October.
Bangladesh Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan, who is playing in the ongoing CPL for the Tridents, failed to contribute with bat and bowl in the last match as he side conceded 46 runs for none in his four-over bowling and later scored only five runs while chasing 219 runs, reports UNB.
The Warriors batted first and posted a big total of 218 runs with the help of Jamaican batsman Brandon King, who smashed 132 off 72 with 10 fours and 11 sixes. Besides, Shoaib Malik, the captain of the Warriors, hit 32 off 19 to guide his team to a challenging total.
For the Tridents, Hayden Walsh bagged two wickets while captain Jason Holder took one.
In reply, Tridents were restricted to 188 for 8 in 20 overs to lose the game by 30 runs. Jonathan Carter was the most successful batsman of the Tridents hitting 49 off 26. Alex Hales scored 36 and Jason hit 26 but their efforts were not enough to avoid a defeat.
For the Warriors, Romario Shepherd bagged three wickets while Imran Tahir and Odean Smith took two wickets each.
The Tridents will get another chance to book a ticket for the final of the CPL as they will face Trinbago Knight Riders in the second qualifier of the event on 10 October at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad.
