Kader Siddique threatens to quit Oikya Front
Bangladesh Jatiya Party also quit the coalition on May 6
Abdul Kader Siddique, president of Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL), has threatened to quit the Jatiya Oikya Front within a month.
Kader Siddique issued the ultimatum at a press conference at KSJL’s Motijheel central office on Thursday, reports UNB.
“There’re many inconsistencies in Jatiya Oikya Front. I will pull out our party from the Jatiya Oikya Front on June 8, if the inconsistencies are not removed,” said the KSJL president.
Andaleeve Rahman Partha, chairman of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) which was one of the key partners of the 20-party alliance, quit the coalition on May 6, following the swearing-in of seven BNP MPs.
Jatiya Oikya Front was formed by BNP, Gono Forum, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rab), and Nagorik Oikya on October 13, 2018, under the leadership of Dr Kamal Hossain.
KSJL formally joined the Oikya Front on November 5, and took part in the December-30 national election with BNP’s symbol.
However, Oikya Front only got eight seats – BNP got six and Gono Forum got two – in the election.
Kader Siddiqui said many problems have arisen in the alliance since the election.
He said: “The alliance could not function properly and has failed to stand by the families of the people killed and injured in the election violence.
“We even failed to hold a mass gathering at Shahbagh on April 30.”
The KSJL president also said: “There has been confusion among the public over the swearing-in of elected MPs of Jatiya Oikya Front, despite the alliance having turned down the dangerous drama staged in the name of national election.”
One of the six elected MPs from BNP was expelled from the party for taking oath, but later, four other MPs were sworn in.
“Only Mirza Fakhrul has refrained from taking oath and we are unable to answer any question regarding this confusion,” Kader added.
The KSJL president criticized Gono Forum for allowing MP Mokobbir Khan at its special council, after he was forced out of Dr Kamal’s room for violating the party’s decision on taking oath.
He said: “Those from the party who took oath, as MPs of the 11th parliament, are considered more notorious than Mir Zafar.”
Kader Siddique said he had talked to senior leaders of Oikya Front, including Dr Kamal Hossain, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, ASM Abdur Rab, Mahmudur Rahman Manna and Mostafa Mohsin Montu, regarding the problems in the alliance.
