McKinstry is only 33 years old but the Irish coach already managed Sierra Leone five years ago before moving to coach the Rwanda national team in 2015
Former Sierra Leone and Rwanda national team head coach Johnathan McKinstry joined new Bangladesh Premier League giants, Saif Sporting Club on Wednesday. The former coach of the cash-rich club, Stewart Hall decided to leave the club after six and a half months in the job and created the vacancy. It was Hall, who recommended the club about McKinstry for the post.
“He [Hall] informed us two weeks ago that he wanted to quit after getting a better offer from the top Ethiopian club. We asked him to find us a suitable replacement who can understand our style and players. Johnathan is a high profile coach. He arrived today with a deal that lasts until the end of the season.” said Saif Sporting Club’s managing director Nasiruddin Chowdhury on Wednesday.
Hall, who officially joined Saif Sporting Club on April 15 this year, kept the words of the club. He was scheduled to leave the club and country Wednesday night.
McKinstry is only 33 years old but the Irish coach already managed Sierra Leone five years ago before moving to coach the Rwanda national team in 2015. His last job was at the Lithuanian top-tier club FK Kauno Zalgiris where he stayed for five months until December, 2017.
The new coach is likely to be seen at the dugout during Saif’s Federation Cup quarterfinal match against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.
