BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday said an election-time supportive government must be formed to ensure a level-playing field and participation of all parties in the next parliamentary elections.
Speaking at the triennial council of Bhola district BNP, he also warned that people will neither join nor accept it if another Awami League-style January 5 election is held.
‘An election-time supportive government will have to be installed for ensuring fair and inclusive polls. A level-playing field must also be ensured. Otherwise, no election will be held in the country,’ the BNP leader warned.
Fakhrul said their party will soon place the framework of the election-time supportive government so that it can help the Election Commission hold the next polls independently and impartially.
He said their party will place the framework as it wants to do positive politics. ‘We hoped the government will also come up with a positive response to this end.’
Fakhrul also said people will not take part in the general election if it is held keeping BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia out of it.
The council was held at Charnoabad Islamic Complex ground after a five-year hiatus. BNP leaders and activists of seven upazilas under the district participated in the programme.
Fakhrul said the government is hatching plots one after another to destroy BNP.
He said their party’s top leaders, including Khaleda and Tarique Rahman, were implicated in ‘false’ cases to keep them away from politics and elections.
The BNP leader alleged that their party chairperson Khaleda Zia is being harassed in court in ‘false’ cases filed against her. ‘There’s now no rule of law and justice in the country. Every institution is being controlled.’
He said media also cannot present truth before people due to the government’s pressure and control.
