Members of Airport Armed Police (AAP) arrested 12 people, including six Rohingyas and three human traffickers, from the departure lounge of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on charge of trying to go abroad with fake Bangladeshi passports on Monday.
Sources said an AAP team in a special drive on a tip-off arrested four Rohingyas and one ‘human trafficker’ around 9:30pm while they were waiting to go to Saudi Arabia by a Kuwait Airlines’ flight.
During preliminary interrogations, the Rohingyas who entered Bangladesh through Cox’s Bazar confessed that the human trafficker was sending them to Saudi Arabia in exchange for Tk 2.5 lakh each with the fake passports.
In another special drive, the AAP members arrested seven people, including two Rohingyas and two ‘human traffickers, from the departure lounge around 8 pm when they were waiting to go to Kuwait by a plane of its airlines.
Two cases were filed with Airport Police Station in this connection.
