A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted 4-day remand to three officials of Bangladesh Biman and two businessmen in connection with gold smuggling case.
Metropolitan magistrate Md Erfan Ullah passed the order rejecting their bail petitions filed by the defence counsel Nazibullah Hiru.
The investigation officer of the case, Muhammad Minhajul Islam, senior assistant police commissioner of Detective Branch (north) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, sought 10-day remand for each of the accused people.
Customs intelligence official Abul Hossain filed the case against the accused with the Airport police station today.
Earlier, the DB police arrested the four Biman officials and a contractor on Tuesday night raiding in the capital’s Airport, Uttara and Bashundhara areas, said DMP joint commissioner (detective branch) Monirul Islam at a press briefing held at its media centre.
The arrested are – Md Emdad Hossain, deputy general manager of flight service of Biman, captain Abu Md Aslam Shahid, chief of planning and scheduling of Biman, Md Tojammel Hossain, manager of scheduling of Biman, Mahmudul Haque Palash, a contractor, and MD Harun-ur Rashid, owner of Farhan Money Exchange in Uttara.
On November 12, a Biman cabin crew Mazharul Afsar alias Russel was arrested along with 2.6 kilograms of gold concealed in his dress at Shahjalal airport in Dhaka.
After a 3-day police interrogation, Russel disclosed the names of other smuggling syndicate in his confessional statement.
