Eyewitness to the 7 murders testifies in court
Three former officers of Rapid Action Battalion -– Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana -– along with 10 others arrested in connection with the seven murders were produced before a local court on Monday.
They were produced before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate AHM Shafiqul in the case filed by Selina Islam, wife of slain Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam.
Besides, an eyewitness to the gruesome seven murders, Mohammad Shahin, gave his deposition before the same court under Section 164.
Earlier, the court recorded the statements of three more eyewitnesses – Shahidul Islam Khokon, his daughter Rabeya Akhter Akhi and Jamal Uddin -– in connection with the seven-murder case.
Meanwhile, Churchill, the bodyguard of Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the seven-murder case, was not produced before the court during Monday’s hearing.
Investigation officer and the district’s DB officer-in-charge Mamunur Rashid Mondal said they did not produce Churchill as he was on remand in another murder case.
After the day’s proceedings, the court fixed August 20 for next hearing.
On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver were abducted by miscreants from Fatullah area of Narayanganj. Hours after their abduction, senior lawyer at district Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted on their way to capital Dhaka.
Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were recovered from the Shitalakhya River on April 30. Besides, the following day, the body of Jahangir, car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the river.
