Two Awami League-supported chairman candidates won the election in Comilla’s Laksam and Sirajganj’s Tarash upazilas while a BNP-backed candidate won the polls in Bagerhat’s Fakirhat upazila.
Re-voting was held in two polling stations in Laksam while one each in Fakirhat and Tarash on Monday.
Earlier on February 27, the returning officers concerned suspended the voting of the stations due to violence and snatching of ballot boxes and papers during the second phase election in 115 upazilas.
In Laksam, AL-blessed chairman contender Advocate Yunus Bhuiyan bagged 54,108 votes while his nearest rival BNP-backed chairman candidate Abdur Rahman Badal, who announced boycotting the election at 3pm, polled 50,611.
In Tarash, AL-backed chairman candidate Abdul Haque won the election bagging 49,312 votes while his nearest rival BNP-supported contender Khandaker Selim Jahangir, who also announced boycotting the polls at 11:30am, pocketed 47,701 votes after the election in one polling station.
In Fakirhat, BNP-blessed chairman candidate Shariful Kamal Karim was unofficially elected. Karim bagged 25,358 votes while his nearest rival AL-backed candidate Sardar Niyamat Hossain polled 22,537 votes.
With this, BNP-backed chairman candidates won in 52 upazilas while AL-supported contenders in 45 upazilas and Jamaat-blessed in 8 upazilas in the second phase elections in 114 upazilas.
