14-party demands legal action against Khaleda,Tarique for their remarks

Ruling Awami League-led 14–party alliance  on Thursday urged the government to take legal action against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and her eldest son Tarique Rahman, now living in England, for their recent identical statements claiming slain Gen Ziaur Rahman as the first president of Bangladesh, saying “such utterance amounts to sedition.”

“The 14-party alliance protested the remarks with indignation,” said Health Minister Mohammad Nasim at a press briefing after a meeting of the ruling alliance at the Awami League president’s Dhanmondi office in the capital.

Nasim, also Awami League presidium member, accused Khaleda Zia of hatching conspiracy, with both national and international forces beside her, to install an undemocratic government in power.

He said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the country’s first President. “It’s an eternal truth like the Sun and the Moon,”

Nasim alleged that the BNP is now taking to the streets with a flurry of lies.

The meeting decided to organize mass campaign and rally across the country from April 28-30, he told the press briefing.

The 14-party alliance leaders Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Dr Dipu Moni, Anisur Rahman Mallick, Nurur Rahman Selim and Dilip Barua, were, among others, present at the briefing.
