BGB-26 battalion commander Lt Col Jahangir Hossain said they had found 12 pounds of venom in a private car on Friday night at the Amrakhali check post.
“The venom was kept in six specially designed containers hidden underneath the car’s seat,” he said.
The car’s driver Miron Kazi, a local, was arrested.
“The consignment came to India from France,” Hossain said.
“It entered Bangladesh via Benapole land port and was being taken to Dhaka.”
He said they had been tipped off about the consignment and were alert for several days at the border in a bid to nab it.
A ‘manual’ found with the venom claimed the contraband had a price of Tk 1 billion, said the BGB official.
